Advent & Christmas 2025
Join our Christmas journey
Looking for a simpler way to enjoy the season? Join as many events as you like, as we journey towards Christmas. All of our events are free, unless otherwise stated, and open to all.
Saturday 29th November
6-8pm Photo Booth at Village Carols
Take a family photo in our NEW Christmas photo booth.
Sunday 30th November – Advent Sunday
9am Holy Communion at St Giles’ Church
St Giles’ is an oasis of calm in a busy world. Cocoon yourself in an old pew, read from real books and sing traditional hymns led by the choir and organ. You are welcome to come up for Communion if it is your tradition, receive a blessing or stay seated. After the service, we catch up over coffee.
11am Scratch Nativity at St Andrew’s Church
Dress as your favourite Nativity character (yes, adults too!) and join in our loosely scripted but enthusiastically acted retelling of the birth of Jesus. Or just come and enjoy the chaos. Refreshments afterwards.
Sunday 7th December
9am Holy Communion at St Giles' Church
11am GROW at St Andrew's Church
A new service format on the first Sunday of each month with worship music, a short talk or video and small group discussion, aimed at growing our congregations in faith and numbers. Refreshments afterwards.
Tuesday 9th December
10am Baby Steps Christmas Party at St Andrew’s Church
Dress up and join in with our mini Nativity story, songs, games and treats. £3 suggested donation.
Sunday 14th December
11am Family Service at St Andrew's Church
Our regular Sunday service with modern worship songs, words and prayers on screen. There is a sermon or talk explaining the bible reading and refreshments after the service. Children’s activities available.
4-6pm Wassailing at St Giles' Church
Welcome in the season of Good News and Great Joy! We'll start at 4pm with our craft indoors at St Giles’, then we'll take a torchlit walk around the Memorial Gardens, stop for carols at the Repton Bridge, then it’s back to St Giles' for more carols, mince pies and mulled cider.
The craft and carols will be wheelchair and buggy accessible but the walk will be dark, uneven and muddy with a few steps, so bring a torch and sturdy shoes or boots. Parking is in the large car park on Church Lane (opposite the Memorial Gardens and Church entrances).
Sunday 21st December
9am Morning Prayer & Baptism at St Giles’ Church
11am Christmas Jumper Family Communion Service at St Andrew’s Church
Give those Christmas jumpers an outing at our family service with old and new Christmas traditions. You are welcome to come up for Communion if it’s your tradition, receive a blessing or stay seated.
6.30pm Lessons & Carols at St Giles' Church
Our traditional carol service with organ and choir, which leads us through the Christmas events with each reading and carol.
Wednesday 24th December Christmas Eve
4pm Family Carols by Candlelight at St Giles' Church
Celebrate the reason for the season! A traditional service with some family fun, carols and candles.
11.30pm Midnight Holy Communion
Enjoy the anticipation of the hour when Christmas Eve turns into Christmas Day. Communion is available for those who would like it and everyone is welcome to come and soak up the atmosphere.
Thursday 25th December Christmas Day
10am Family Communion Service at St Giles' Church
It’s the Big Day! Come and celebrate Jesus’ birthday with us.
Sunday 28th December
11am Family Service at St Andrew's Church
6.30pm Holy Communion with healing prayer at St Giles' Church
On the last Sunday of each month, we have a traditional evening service with many sections sung by the choir. With no need to disclose your health needs, all are welcome to come and receive a prayer of healing, with or without Holy Communion.

“Watch & Pray” drops each Wednesday at 12pm, featuring a short talk and prayer prompts from our ministry team to give you a mid-week reminder of God’s goodness and peace. Our Facebook account is @stokepogeschurch
Seasonal Reflections with the Church of England app
The Everyday Faith app changes with each season and in December it features daily Advent reflections (1 - 23 December) and 12 days of Christmas reflections (24 December - 6 January).
Together, each reflection takes you on a journey that will help you take fresh encouragement and hope from Advent and the Christmas story into the year ahead.
Search for “Everyday Faith” in your app store.
