Advent & Christmas 2024
Here's the calendar! More details on special events below...
All of our Christmas activities are open to everyone, regardless of their faith or church attendance. You can just turn up or contact us via the church office if you have more questions.
Special event information
Saturday 23rd November
6-8pm Carols on the Green - behind the Village Hall
Come and have your picture taken in the Nativity photo booth! Are you a wise man or an angel?
Sunday 1st December
11am Scratch Nativity All Age Service at St Andrew's Church
Dress as your favourite Nativity character! A whole herd of sheep/goats, a host of angels and can you have too many wise men? All these questions and more will be asked...
Tuesday 10th December
10am Baby Steps Christmas Party at St Andrew’s Church
Dress up as your favourite character in the Nativity and join in the story!
Sunday 15th December
4-6pm Wassailing is back at St Giles' Church, Church Lane, Stoke Poges, SL2 4NZ
Wassailing welcomes in the season of Good News and Great Joy!
Park in the large Memorial Gardens car park on the opposite side of Church Lane and gather at St Giles' from 4pm. We'll start with our craft indoors, then we'll take a walk around the Memorial Gardens and stop for some carols along the way and then come back to St Giles' for more carols, mince pies and mulled cider.
The craft and carols will be wheelchair and buggy accessible but the walk will be dark and uneven, possibly muddy, with a few steps so wrap up for the weather, bring a torch and sturdy shoes or boots. Disabled parking only is in the driveway of the Memorial Gardens. This year, our theme is "Calm and Bright" so we'll be making bath bombs to take home and enjoy a calm moment.
There's no need to book and no fee - just roll up.
Sunday 22nd December
11am Christmas Jumper Family Service at St Andrew’s Church
The last Sunday before Christmas is always a fun one, with a blend of old and new traditions. Wear your snazziest Christmas jumper / hat / tinsel and join us as we light the fourth Advent candle and get into the (real) Christmas spirit. Also a cheeky mince pie or two after the service.
Sunday 22nd December
6.30pm Traditional Carol Service at St Giles' Church
Our traditional service of Carols and Lessons. Come and join in our choir and organ-led service to unfold the Christmas story with lots of your favourite carols.
Christmas Eve Tuesday 24th December
4pm Family Carols by Candlelight at St Giles' Church
Does just what it says on the tin… Bring the whole family and enjoy carols by candlelight, plus be prepared for audience participation as we find out about the Christmas Promise.
11.30pm Midnight Holy Communion at St Giles' Church
Experience the magic of the hour when Christmas Eve turns into Christmas Day. If you’ve never tried it, come along and soak up the atmosphere. If it is part of your Christmas tradition, we look forward to seeing you as always.
Christmas Day Wednesday 25th December
10am Family Communion Service at St Giles' Church
A traditional service with some family fun; come and celebrate the Good News with us!
Parking
at St Giles’ Church is on Church Lane on the opposite side of the road to the church so please allow time to park, cross the road safely, walk up our long path through the churchyard and find a seat. St Andrew's has its own car park on Rogers Lane.
You can find directions here.
What to wear
You don’t have to dress in your “Sunday best” to come to church – whatever you are comfortable in is fine or feel free to dress up for Christmas!
Free entry
There is no charge to attend any of our Christmas or regular services. If you would like to donate to the work of the church supporting children, senior citizens and other vulnerable people, you can do this any time via our website or the QR codes in each church.
Our regular Sunday Services
are at 11am every week at St Andrew’s and alternate between 9am & 6.30pm at St Giles’. Please check for updates on our website or church noticeboards.
The Lighthouse Café
is open 12-4pm each weekday with occasional closures for staff holidays (there’ll be a sign on the door if we’re away). We have great value tea, coffee and juices, excellent cakes and a friendly welcome.
